About Me

I'm a lifelong Colorado resident whose passion for drawing and painting nature began at an early age hiking and spending much of my childhood outdoors in the Roaring Fork Valley. Working primarily in watercolor and pen, I paint subjects ranging from mountain and desert landscapes to detailed renderings of local flora and fauna.

I was born and raised in Basalt, CO and graduated from Basalt High School. I then went on to earn a B.A. in Studio Art from Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA. After college, I returned to Basalt and established a career in the arts, working as the Communications and Community Outreach Coordinator at the Art Base and then as Art Coordinator at Basalt Regional Library. I now live in Grand Junction, CO with my husband Zach. We own and operate a custom van conversion business, Out There Vans.

I enjoy creating art inspired by my hikes and camping trips both on the road and at my home studio. My dog Dandy and cat Toby are my studio assistants and muses.

My art is rooted my love for the natural world.

In my work I aim to convey the sense of joy intertwined with nostalgia that I experience when I witness beauty, whether it be in a sunset over a sweeping canyon or an intricately patterned insect perched on a wildflower.

Observation & Preservation

My desire to observe & preserve the subjects that have caught my attention drives me to create art. I have experienced anxiety surrounding change and the passage of time for as long as I can remember. I feel like I'm able to soothe this anxiety through making art because when I'm drawing & painting, I'm so fully absorbed in rendering my subject that I feel truly present. This is especially true when I'm painting plain air & I have to work quickly to render the landscape in front of me as the light changes before my eyes.

Balancing Spontaneity & Control

Creating art provides me with a feeling of control, but I especially love working in watercolor because it's a medium that is most beautiful when I relinquish some control & let the water do its magic. On the other hand I love detailed line work in pen & paint because it really gives me a sense of control & allows me to indulge my ruminative personality.

Mindfulness & Memories

Long story short, I create art because I love the meditative experience it provides & I want to observe & honor the beauty of the world we live in. While I'm making a painting, it's a pathway for being in the present. When a painting is complete, it becomes a nostalgic image of that moment of joy from the past. The act of preservation through art has taught me how to observe closely, embrace unpredictability, and celebrate serendipity during the artistic process and in life.
